Minoo Emadi

Minoo Emadi’s practice resists definition—extending toward polarized extremes within shifting contextual frameworks and sustaining a tension that runs through the entire body of work. Informed by a sustained engagement with art history and semiotics, she deepens her understanding of painting’s self-referential and autonomous nature. Reflecting on how image-based, time-based, and spatial media construct meaning and shape perception, she reimagines painting’s communicative capacity. Through this inquiry, she examines how the pictorial field can absorb, resist, or translate the logics of these disciplines while remaining ontologically tied to its own ground. Her works often evolve from immediate drawings made in moments of instinctive urgency, crystallizing into a meditative state—lucid yet estranged—that evokes the affective charge of the uncanny. Her recent inquiry centers on spectatorship—understood as an embodied field of encounter where perception, unfolding through movement and time, turns seeing into an event.
